The Women of the Year in Technology Awards

This year's winners for 'Women of the Year in Technology' were announced in Atlanta. At the core to WIT’s mission is advancing women in technology from the classroom to the boardroom. The programming and networking opportunities give members the opportunity to expand their professional skills and knowledge and meet the people who can help them take their career to the next level.

The winners were categorized under:

Emerging/Small Organization

Winner: Mona Harty, PSR Associates

Mid-Market/Medium Organization

Winner: Kristine Nagel, VP Georgia Gwinnett College

Legacy Award

Winner: Sandy Hofmann, CIO-in-Residence GA Tech

Girl of the Year

Winner: Annika Garbers, Student

Enterprise Business

Winner: Kitty Chaney-Reed, Global Leader NCR Corp.

As the Executive Director Monica Thornton joined the WIT in September 2013. Monica served as the SVP/Chief Marketing and Development Officer at Piedmont Park Conservancy since 2005. There she led the organization's marketing and development initiatives, a $42 Million capital campaign, logo and website redesign, creation of a pace –setting corporate giving program, sponsorship sales, media buys and many other efforts; all while directing its frontline communications effort. She has also held leadership positions at United Way of Metro Atlanta, Fox 5 Atlanta, CBS Atlanta, WSB-TV and Georgia Public Broadcasting, where she continues to volunteer as a spokesperson during live telethons.

Monica is a results-driven leader amongst Atlanta’s competitive fundraising and marketing professionals, offering more than 20 years of a successful business development, brand management, public relations, and community engagement track-record. She also has substantial experience in strategic planning, coaching and public speaking and has been sought out for a host of panels, including Park Pride, City Park’s Alliance and Kennesaw State University.
